Hot
Rolled
Hot Rolled, pickled, and oiled coil or sheet steel that has been
descaled of oxide film by either a chemical method, mechanical method,
or a combination of both and oiled to help retard corrosion during
storage and after descaling. "HRPO" is available in various
gauges, widths, and cut lengths or coil.
Cold
Rolled
Cold Rolled, commercial quality sheet or coil steel supplied for
either exposed or unexposed applications where bending, welding,
forming, or moderate drawing is involved. "CRCQ" is available
in coil, sheet or strip formed with various gauge ranges, widths,
and hardness.
Electro
Galvanized
Electro Galvanized sheet steel in coil and cut lengths that is zinc
coated by electro-deposition for a light or thin coated mass. This
product is manufactured for use as formed or miscellaneous parts
where corrosion resistance is necessary as opposed to an uncoated
sheet.
Hot
Dipped Galvanized
Hot Dipped Galvanized sheet or strip steel bathed in a molten solution
containing not less than 98% pure zinc to uniformly coat for corrosion
resistance. The coating is not intended to withstand outdoor exposure
without chemical treatment or painting. Sheets are produced as commercial
quality, drawing quality, drawing quality special killed, structural,
physical quality, and are available in regular spangle, minimized
spangle, and zinc-iron alloy.
Aluminized
Aluminized is a type 1 and is hot dipped coated with an aluminum-silicon
alloy (5%-11%) silicon for better adherence. This product is intended
for heat-resisting applications and where corrosion resistance and
heat are involved.
Galvanneal
Galvanneal is a hot-dip coated sheet product in which the zinc coating
has been changed into a zinc-iron alloy coating for improved paintability.
This is done in the hot-dip process by taking the zinc-coated sheet
as it leaves the bath of molten zinc and immediately subjecting
it to a heat treatment that causes the zinc to alloy with the iron
and become a zinc-iron alloy coating. Galvanneal has a dull matte
appearance compared with the shiny bright surface of hot-dip galvanized.
This matte surface is excellent for painting. In fact, Galvanneal
is recommended only for painted applications.
The iron-zinc alloy coating is harder and more brittle than the
soft zinc coating of hot-dip galvanized. This harder coating is
more resistant to scratches during handling, but also may show a
greater tendency toward "powdering" of the coating during
difficult forming operations. Careful process control during the
production of Galvannealed coatings combined with proper forming
practices during part fabrication can minimize the powdering and
achieve excellent results
Galvanneal, a Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel can be used rather than
Cold Rolled Steel with factory applied primers. Galvanneal was developed
for the automotive industry by the steel mills to combat the ravaging
effects of corrosion most common on vehicles in the 1960's. Most
automobile manufactured today do not rust as quickly as older vehicles
because automobile manufacturers today uses Galvanneal or a sister
product Galvalume for body & body parts.
Paintable Galvanneal is a Hot Dipped Galvanized specially processed
steel that receives a mill coating of chromate and phosphate at
the steel mill to ensure the maximum in finish paint adhesion and
low maintenance operation.
Independent laboratory testing to strict ASTM test criteria has
proven that Galvanneal Steel outperforms traditional cold rolled
and factory primed painted with regard to corrosion resistance and
finish paint film adhesion.
